NEWDELHI: The ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB) has asked several film federations to consider asking their members to run titles and credits in Hindi for all Hindi feature films.

In a letter to the Indian Motion Pictures Association, the Film and Producers Guild of India, Film Federation of India and Indian Films and TV Producers Council of India among others, the ministry has said it has come to their notice that credits and titles in a majority of the films are in English.

The ministry of information and broadcasting has underlined that since these films are made in Hindi, it is a logical that people who are not familiar with English are not deprived of the information about the actors, the crew and other production details.

“Most of the Hindi films have titles and credits written only in English. In the past most of the film makers used to show the title in more than one language. It if for the benefit of the audience that this issue has been raised,” an official said on condition of anonymity.

Film maker Chandraprakash Dwivedi told HT that the move is a welcome step.

“It is a good proposal by the ministry, since it is logical that all Hindi films must have credits in the same language, but it is also sad that film makers have to be told to do this. They should have honoured the language they are making the film in,” Dwivedi said.
