Monsoon session of Hry assembly to be stormy

Opposition gears up to corner the Khattar government during the session scheduled to start on August 17

CHANDIGARH: Stage seems to be set for major fireworks in the ensuing monsoon session of the Haryana assembly which the Vidhan Sabha secretariat has decided to summon from August 17.

Even though the final schedule of the session would be finalised by the assembly business advisory committee in the coming days, it is learnt that the session would go till August 22.

When asked about the issues to be raised by the principal opposition party Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), leader of opposition Abhay Chautala said there was no dearth of issues the INLD wanted to raise, though the irony was that the ruling BJP seemed to have no answers and had always run away instead of addressing them.

He said that the government had played a joke on farmers on the issue of minimum support prices on various crops. “Contrary to government’s claims, the reality is that sugarcane and mustard farmers have still not been paid their due payments. The law and order situation in the state seems to have collapsed. There are many issues, the INLD would gherao the BJP with but sadly, the BJP would try to evade them as always,” Abhay added.

Leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), Kiran Choudhry, too said that her party would take on the ruling government on various issues. “The government has failed on all fronts, be it law and order situation or corruption, farmers, irrigation or poor people. The government has opened women police stations but the crime against women is on the rise; there are charges of corruption in several departments; government claims to have made water availability till the canal tails, though in some rural areas there is scarcity of even drinking water,” he said.

Parliamentary affairs minister Rambilas Sharma rubbished the charges of the opposition parties saying that in the last four years, the BJP has done what it planned to do. Taking a dig at the cycle yatra by Congress president Ashok Tanwar and “Jan Kranti Yatra’’ by former CM Hooda, he said the bicycle of one Congress leader had flat tyres, while the other leader was carrying on with his “jan bhranti yatra’’ (meaning rally to mislead and misguide people).
