Bilaspur soldier killed in J&K’S Sopore cremated with full military honours

SHIMLA: Army soldier Vijay Kumar, 31, who was killed in a fierce gunbattle with terrorists at Dursoo village in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, was cremated with full military honours at his native village, Uttarpur, in Bilaspur district on Saturday.

Vijay Kumar was killed in a counter-terrorist operation on Friday in Sopore, in which two terrorists were eliminated, a defence spokesman said.

A guard of honour was given to the martyr’s body by army jawans led by Major Rakesh Upadhyay.

A large number of people from the village and surroundin­g areas gathered at the crematoriu­m to bid final adieu to the brave soldier.

Kumar, who had joined the Army in 2004, was survived by his wife and two sons. Vijay Kumar was serving in the Rashtriya Rifles

Governor Acharya Devvrat and chief minister Jai Ram Thakur have paid tributes to Vijay Kumar . "The brave soldier of Himachal Pradesh has made the supreme sacrifice for the country,” said the governor in his condolence message.

The chief minister said gallant soldiers of the state have always fought for the security of the nation and have made the state proud.

The country and the state will never forget the ultimate sacrifice of Vijay Kumar.
