SIRSA: In yet another attempt to wipe out the drug menace, the panchayat of Chautala village of Sirsa district has decided to publicise the photos of those found involved in drug-peddling and selling illicit liquor.

During a meeting called by Ravi Chautala, the grandson of former deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal, the village elders and panchayat members said that they would also make sure that no shopkeeper in the village sells tobacco to the underage.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Ravi Chautala said, “Due to proximity to the borders of Punjab and Rajasthan, the drug menace in this village is severe.” “I have personally seen youths getting into drug peddling and then getting addicted to it themselves. To control this menace, we have decided to publicise the pictures of those found selling drugs.”

Village sarpanch Nirmala Devi said that the villagers are determined to make the place drug-free.

The villagers even took out a motorcycle rally in the village against the drug menace. They will also hold campaign on August 25 for those village youths who are drug-addicts and want to overcome it.

To set up CCTVS through crowdfunding

The panchayat has also decided to seek crowdfunding for installing CCTV cameras in the village so as to help the villagers and police trace criminals quickly.

Ravi Chautala said, “We have also decided that the villagers will also help the local police by providing tipoffs about the drug sellers.”
