MEHBOOBA MUFTI, PDP chief

SRINAGAR : The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has decided to abstain from voting for the post of vice-chairman of Rajya Sabha, the PDP said in a statement released on Tuesday.

The decision came after former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah accused the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti of supporting both the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and the Bjpled National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidates in the elections.

It is pertinent to mention here that the PDP chief is in Delhi and the PDP has two votes.

“Usually fake news & falsehoods are peddled by dubious news channels. But its baffling when a politician like @Omarabdullah fabricates stories based on pure fiction. Such dangerous propaganda is detrimental to the truth & an attempt to mislead people,” wrote Mehbooba Mufti on twitter hours after Omar Abdullah blamed her for committing votes of her party to both the UPA and NDA.

“Mehbooba Mufti has told the Congress she will support the UPA candidate for #Rajyasabha Vice Chairman. She’s also told the BJP she will support the NDA candidate. How does that work exactly?,” wrote Omar Abdullah on twitter that generated war of words between followers of both the leaders on the social media and juniors leaders of both the parties jumped into the debate defending their top leadership.

However, the PDP issued a statement that its members will abstain from voting in the elections for the vice-chairman of Rajya Sabha. Before the Bharatiya Janata Party took back the support from the coalition government in June and Mehbooba Mufti was forced to resign as chief minister, the PDP was an ally of Bjp-led NDA. With this, it seems that the PDP has broken away from the NDA but has not become a part of the Congress-led UPA.
