AIJASS: No dharnas from August 16, will oppose CM, FM events
› We have decided to boycott every programme of CM and FM in villages of nine districts in the state — Rohtak, Jhajjar, Jind, Bhiwani, Hisar, Sonepat, Kaithal, Panipat and Fatehabad. RAMBHAGAT MALIK, AIJASS state spokesperson
HISAR: The All India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) on Tuesday clarified that it will not hold dharnas from August 16, but only oppose various functions of chief minister (CM) Manohar Lal Khattar and finance minister (FM) Capt Abhimanyu in villages in nine districts of Haryana.
Talking about the first phase of their fresh agitation, AIJASS state spokesperson Rambhagat Malik said, “We are getting calls from everyone regarding dharnas, which is totally wrong information. We have decided to boycott every programme of CM and FM in various villages of Rohtak, Jhajjar, Jind, Bhiwani, Hisar, Sonepat, Kaithal, Panipat and Fatehabad districts.”
Malik said that during a meeting at Jassia village, chaired by AIJASS national president Yashpal Malik, it was decided to oppose the events of CM and FM, as the government has failed to keep its promises of providing reservation in government jobs and education, and withdrawal of cases filed in connection with the 2016 quota stir.
Talking to Hindustan Times over phone, Yashpal Malik said, “AIJASS will oppose every state government programme in villages. We have also formed a core committee and various local units to apprise the villagers of the government’s unfulfilled promises.”
He added, “If the government fails to fulfil our demands, we will intensify our agitation. In the second phase of our stir, the members of Jat community will sit on hunger strike and hold dharnas all over Haryana.”
Meanwhile, the Hawa Singh Sangwan faction of the AIJASS has asserted that it will observe ‘Shaheedi Diwas’ at Mayyar in Hisar on September 13 to mark the death anniversary of Sunil Sheoran, who was killed in police firing during the 2010 Jat quota protest.
