ROHTAK : The family of Jind shooter Lakshay Sheoran, 19, who has won a Silver medal in men’s trap event in Asian Games being held in Indonesia, said he was fond of using slingshots and pellet guns in fairs during his childhood.

“When Rajyvardhan Rathore won an Olympic medal in shooting, he was very young but expressed his desire to pursue the game seriously. We got him admitted for training in Delhi after Class 10 and within four months he won a national gold medal and since then he has been representing India. He has so far won 25 gold medals in national and international events,” said Promila Sheoran, Lakshay’s mother.

She said as Lakshay was living on rent for training in Delhi, the family bought a house in Faridabad so that they could shift there to let Lakshay practise with ease.

The family has now requested the government to start a shooting range in Jind for budding shooters.

Lakshay’s father Sombir Pehelwan is a leading trader in Jind. “We watched the match live and could not contain our happiness. It is his passion for the game that has made him achieve this in such a little time. We are sure he will bring a medal for the country in next Olympics as well,” said Sombir.

Lakshay is pursuing BA from Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar. He is a first-year student. He completed his schooling from Indus Public School in Jind.
