No takers from govt school for Science City’s innovation hub

- ■

JALANDHAR: Started on November 30, 2017, to engage youth in innovative activities, the innovation hub of Punjab established at Science City here, has failed to attract even a single student from government schools.

Despite a letter sent by the director general school education (DGSE) Parshant Kumar Goyal to the district education officers (DEOS) of Jalandhar and Kapurthala, directing them to encourage the students to come up with innovative and creative ideas, the response from government schools remains poor.

The hub has 300 registered students. About 220 students are from private and governmentaided schools and remaining 80 are college students.

The National Council of Science Museums under the ministry of culture established over 60 such innovative hubs across the country.

Under the project, young minds with unique ideas are given a platform to engage in hands-on-activity projects. The cost incurred on any project on which the student wants to work, will be borne by the Centre.

Innovation hub chief mentor Vishal Sharma said that they have been giving training of futuristic technology to students at a fee of ₹500, annually.

He said, government school students should also come up with unique ideas as the hub is an excellent platform to learn practically and free of cost.htc
