₹100 crore sanctioned for Punjab under Swadesh Darshan Scheme
NEWDELHI :The Union ministry of tourism said on Monday that it has sanctioned two new projects under the “Heritage and North East Circuits of Swadesh Darshan Scheme” for ₹164.95 crore in Punjab and Tripura.
“Swadesh Darshan” (tour of country) is a flagship scheme of the Union ministry of tourism for the development of thematic circuits in the country in a planned and prioritised manner.
“In Punjab, the project covers sites of Anandpur Sahib, Fatehgarh Sahib, Chamkaur Sahib, Ferozepur, Amritsar, Khatkar Kalan, Kalanaur, Patiala at the cost of ₹99.95 crore,” the ministry said in a statement.
The project includes development of Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar at the cost of ₹8 crore, development of tourist infrastructure and heritage path at Anandpur Sahib for ₹28.99 crore, Fatehgarh Sahib covering sites of “samadhi” of Shaheed Udham Singh, Jahaz Haveli of Diwan Todar Mal, Mir Miran Tomb and Sadna Kasai Tomb (₹19.20 crore), it said.
The project would also undertake the development of Chamkaur Sahib (₹13.99 crore), Hussainiwala Border in Ferozepur (₹8 crore), Khatkar Kalan, the birthplace of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Kalanaur in Gurdaspur
district and Patiala (₹17 crore), it added.
“The facilities being developed include virtual reality shows at Jallianwala Bagh and Hussainiwala border, beautification and landscaping, interpretation centres, façade development, wayside amenities, parking, CCTV and wi-fi facilities, cafeterias, open-air theatre,
drinking water facility,” the statement said.
Under the “North East Circuit” in Tripura, the sites of Surma Cherra, Unakotijampui Hills, Gunabatibhunaneshwari, Matabari, Neermahal, Boxanagar, Chotta Khola, Pilak- Avangchaarra are covered with a total project cost of ₹65 crore, it said.
