Gangster among six booked for Goindwal Sahib shootout

Police seize three cars; .315bore rifle and .32 borepistol from the spot

A day after two group of gangs clashed, leaving four dead, at Goindwal Sahib shootout, the police have booked six people in the case, on Tuesday.

The deceased have been identified as gangster Sahilpreet of Hansawala village, Gurjant Singh aka Janta of Dhunda village and Arshdeep Singh of Khadoor Sahib.

The fourth victim, Dalbir Singh aka Bira of Goindwal Sahib was a rickshaw puller, who succumbed to his bullet injury. The victim was caught in cross fire at the Goindwal Sahib market. He was undergoing treatment at Guru Nanak Dev Super Specialty Hospital in Tarn Taran.

Police have registered the case following a complaint by deceased Gurjant Singh’s mother Sukhwinder Kaur, 50.

The booked have been identified as gangster Iqbal Singh Afridi of Fatehabad, Prabhjit Singh of Hansawala, Gursewak Singh aka Bomb of Goindwal Sahib, Pargat Singh of Kotli Sarukha, Rubal and Robinjit Singh.

In her complaint to the police, Sukhwinder said, “I had gone to gurdwara Goindwal Sahib to pay obeisance on Monday. When I came back, I saw my son and Sahilpreet sitting in an i20 car (PB-02-CU-9041) in the market.”

“There were two other cars as well — a Mahindra Thar which was being driven by Iqbal Singh Afridi — and an SUV in which Sahilpreet’s aides were sitting,” she said.

She said, “Iqbal and his aides started firing indiscrimi­nately at my son’s car. During the firing, my son was killed while Sahilpreet received bullet injuries. But, he managed to flee from the spot.”

“In retaliatio­n, Sahilpreet’s aides also opened firing at Iqbal’s car, during which one of the Iqbal’s aides Arshdeep was killed,” she said.

The victim’s mother told the police that Sahilpreet and accused Prabhjit have been at loggerhead­s for past few months as the duo wanted to contest for an upcoming panchayat election from Hansawala village against each other.

Iqbal who is a gangster is wanted in many criminal cases, said police. However, he joined Congress during the last assembly elections and used to move in the area freely.

Senior superinten­dent of police (SSP) Darshan Singh Mann said, “A case under Section 302 (punishment) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused, who are absconding.”

“Three cars have been confiscate­d from the spot. We have also recovered .315-bore rifle and .32 bore-pistol,” the SSP said.

“Police teams have been formed to conduct raids.the accused will be arrested within few days,” said the SSP.
