SIT on Maur blasts records statements of kin of victims

BATHINDA: Nineteen months after twin bomb blasts rocked Maur in January 2017, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to investigate the case recorded statements of eyewitnesses and families of victims. The twin blasts took place on January 31, 2017, shortly after an assembly poll rally of Congress candidate from Maur Harminder Singh Jassi, killing seven people. Three followers of Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda have been booked in the case.

SP Rajinder Singh Sohal, DSP Sulakhan Singh and Maur SHO inspector Dalbir Singh visited the blast site.

Before this, the SIT had held a meeting in Mansa, where DIG Ranbir Singh Khatra, who heads it, and AIG Sukhmandar Singh were present. Bathinda SSP Nanak Singh also attended the SIT meeting.

“The visit has brought some new aspects related to the blasts to the fore,” said a SIT member, on the condition of anonymity. Khatra could not be contacted despite attempts.

Last month, a Talwandi Sabo court had started the process of declaring the three accused, Gurtej Singh Kala of Dabwali in Sirsa district, Haryana; Amrik Singh of Bhikhi in Mansa district and Avtar Singh of Massimajra village near Pehowa in Haryana, as Proclaimed Offenders (POS).

The court had ordered police to paste notices outside their houses to appear before it (the court) by September 24.
