JALANDHAR: With few senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders criticising the party’s move to boycott the discussion on Justice Ranjit Singh Commission report, it’s ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also feels that the SAD-BJP legislators should have participated in the Vidhan Sabha discussion.

“The Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party have taken full advantage of the boycott,” said senior BJP leader and former state president Kamal Sharma, during an interaction with HT on Monday.sharma said if the SAD had participated in the discussion, they could have presented their opinions and counter the allegations that were levelled.

“The BJP legislators had gone to the Vidhan Sabha with their prepared speeches to corner the ruling party but they didn’t know about this abrupt decision of boycotting the session,” Sharma said further.

“The Congress always cites itself as a secular party. Then, why Hindu leaders like Brahm Mohindra, Bharat Bhushan Ashu and OP Soni not given chance to give a speech in the session. This shows that the whole episode was scripted and the Congress has tried to give it a communal colour,” Sharma said.

“Captain Amarinder Singh’s speech gives an impression that he was under some pressure. Even his aggression during the speech was apparently artificial,” Kamal Sharma said.

He said the Congress members of legislative assembly, including local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu were seen sharing hugs and handshakes after their speeches on the sensitive issue.

“This behaviour shows how serious they are on this sensitive issue,” he said.
