SAGAR: The police in Madhya Pradesh on Monday arrested the son of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator from Hata, in Sagar district, for a Facebook post threatening to kill senior Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia if he came there for a rally, according to officials familiar with the development.
The incident, which sparked a strong condemnation from the Congress, led to the BJP MLA Uma Devi Khatik apologising for her son’s action.
Scindia said the post was a reflection of the BJP’S mindset.
“The death threat by the BJP MLA’S son is a reflection of the entire BJP’S ideology. But we are not scared of such threats, we will not bend and we will not stop,” the Congress leader tweeted.
Hata town’s police inspector Dharmendra Singh said that, following a complaint by Youth Congress leader Anurag Vardhan Hazari, a case was registered against Princedeep Khatik, who is the son of BJP MLA Uma Devi Khatik. He was charged with intentional insult to provoke, breach of peace, and criminal intimidation. Singh said the police had arrested Khatik.
Uma Devi Khatik said it was wrong on the part of her son to write the post. She also said that Scindia, a member of Parliament, deserved respect, and was welcome in Hata. When contacted, the BJP state president Rakesh Singh said that he was not aware of the incident.
