Soldier among 3 wanted in Haryana gan­grape case

Ar­rest warrant is­sued against soldier posted in Kota, Ra­jasthan; po­lice team sent to nab him, ₹1 lakh award an­nounced for info on 3 ac­cused

Hisar: haryana po­lice launched a hunt for three men, among them an army per­son­nel, for the al­leged rape of 20-year-old woman last week, of­fi­cials said on Satur­day.

Haryana di­rec­tor gen­eral of po­lice (DGP) BS Sandhu said a po­lice team had been sent to Ra­jasthan, where the army man be­lieved to be the main ac­cused is posted. “The other two ac­cused will also be ar­rested soon,” he said. The DGP said se­nior of­fi­cials will also in­ves­ti­gate if there was any neg­li­gence on part of the po­lice in re­spond­ing to the case. The po­lice also re­leased pho­to­graphs and names of the three ac­cused —Pankaj, Man­ish and Nishu.

HISAR: An ar­rest warrant was is­sued on Satur­day against a soldier posted in Kota of Ra­jasthan, who is the main ac­cused in the gan­grape of a 20-year-old woman from Re­wari at Kan­ina in Ma­hen­dra­garh dis­trict.

Haryana di­rec­tor gen­eral of po­lice (DGP) BS Sandhu said, “A po­lice team has been sent to Ra­jasthan to ar­rest him. The other two ac­cused will also be ar­rested soon,” he said.

The ac­cused soldier has been iden­ti­fied as Pankaj.

The DGP said se­nior of­fi­cials will also con­duct an in­quiry to see if there was any neg­li­gence on the part of the po­lice.

The po­lice also an­nounced a re­ward of Rs 1 lakh for in­for­ma­tion about the three ac­cused who gan­graped the woman when she was on her way to a coach­ing cen­tre on Septem­ber 12.

Be­sides Pankaj, the FIR names two other ac­cused — Man­ish and Nishu. The po­lice have re­leased the pho­tograps of all the thee ac­cused. In her com­plaint, the woman said that Pankaj and Man­ish drugged her and took her near a well in a car where she recog­nised Nishu af­ter gain­ing con­scious­ness. How­ever, she was again drugged and al­legedly gan­graped.

Nuh su­per­in­ten­dent of po­lice (SP) Nazneen Bhasin, who leads the spe­cial in­ves­ti­ga­tion team (SIT), told re­porters in Re­wari, “Med­i­cal re­ports con­firm rape but how many com­mit­ted the crime is a mat­ter of in­ves­ti­ga­tion.

Sam­ples have been sent to the foren­sic lab.”

Talk­ing to HT, Bhasin said, “A state­ment of the vic­tim un­der Section 164 of the CRPC has been recorded. Now the SIT is at the crime scene and col­lect­ing more de­tails about the case.”

Bhasin vis­ited the vic­tim in hos­pi­tal and said her con­di­tion is

sta­ble. On the other hand, the fam­ily mem­bers of the vic­tim told HT that even dur­ing the record­ing of the state­ment, the con­di­tion of the vic­tim was not sta­ble. Her fa­ther said the state­ment was recorded in the mid­dle of the night at around 1am.

Mean­while, the po­lice pro­vided se­cu­rity to the vic­tim’s fam­ily on the di­rec­tions of Haryana State Women Com­mis­sion chair­per­son Prat­i­bha Suman.

The Na­tional Com­mis­sion for Women also wrote to DGP Sandhu, seek­ing up­dates on the case.

The med­i­cal re­port has con­firmed rape. A state­ment of the vic­tim un­der Section 164 of the CRPC has been recorded. The SIT is col­lect­ing more de­tails about the case. NAZNEEN BHASIN, Nuh SP
