Fastway seeks cancellation of former tax official’s bail
LUDHIANA: A day after former service tax official Amarjit Singh Dhaliwal appeared with cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu at a press conference against Fastway here, cable network managing director (MD) Gurdeep Singh on Friday moved an application in a local court seeking the cancellation of Dhaliwal’s bail in a corruption case
In his application, Gurdeep alleged that Dhaliwal tried to “pressurise and threaten” him by holding a press conference and through other means.
Dhaliwal, accompanied by Sidhu, presented “twisted and false facts” before the media regarding GST notices issued to Fastway in January this year, he alleged.
Sidhu on Thursday said the directorate general of goods and services tax (GST) intelligence issued show-cause notices to Fastway Transmissions Private Limited (FTPL) and its top management for alleged ₹303-crore service tax evasion.
Dhaliwal was booked by the vigilance department in 2014 for allegedly accepting a Rs 20-lakh bribe from the Fastway MD.
Fastway counsel Parupkar Singh Ghuman said Gurdeep also requested the court to provide security to him as Dhaliwal is “continuously threatening” him
Ghuman urged the court to send Dhaliwal behind the bars as he is “trying to twist the case by presenting false statements and threatening the complainant.”
