NINE DEAD, 5 INJURED AFTER BUS PLUNGES INTO GORGE

DEHRADUN: At least nine people were killed and five others injured after a mini bus carrying tourists fell into a gorge near Muneri town in Uttarkashi district on Friday.

Till the report was being filed, the recuse operation was still on by the local police and state disaster response force (SDRF) team who informed that the deceased and the injured hailed from Rajkot, Gujarat.

According to deputy superinten­dent of police, Uttarkashi, Manoj Kumar Thakur, the incident happened on Gangotri highway in the district in the evening at around 4pm.

“As soon as the local police of Muneri received the informatio­n about the accident, it rushed to the spot for rescue operation. Nine of the total persons travelling in the mini-bus died on the spot with their bodied recovered from the spot.

“Five were found injured by the rescue team and were rushed to the district hospital where they are undergoing treatment,” he said.

He added: “As the rescue operation is still on, more details about the passengers could not be ascertaine­d except the fact that they hail from Rajkot in Gujarat.

Also, the police still to find that whether the vehicle was going towards Gangotri or returning from there.”

According to state disaster response force official Praveen Alok, “The incident happened about 30 km away from Sungad area. There are two teams of SDRF involved in the rescue team which is still on.”
