GURUGRAM: A 19-year-old woman was killed and her brother was left severely injured when a rashly driven Haryana Roadways bus collided with their non geared scooter on the Guru grams ult a np ur Road, Saturday morning.

The woman suffered fatal head injuries after her vehicle allegedly hit the bus head-on and was dragged for 50metres to 60metres before the bus came to a halt. While she succumbed to her injuries on the spot, her minor brother was rushed to Thakral Nursing Home in Sector 11, where he was operated upon and recovering.

The siblings were identified as Mansi Yadav, a second-year college student, and Ishu Yadav (17). They live in Silani Gate area of Jhajjar. Their family said Mansi had left home around 7am to see a doctor in Naharpur, Manesar, and her brother, a polytechnic student, was riding pillion with her.

“My children left home together around 7am and I received a call from the police at 8am saying that they had met with an accident. We rushed to the spot where we were told us that my daughter was no more,” Mukesh Yadav, father of the deceased, said.

The accident took place around 150 meters ahead of Sultanpur Lake where the twowheeler was hit head-on by the rashly Haryana Roadways bus, police said. According to eyewitnesses, the bus driver was rash and lost control over the vehicle, which also veered off the road after the accident.

The police said the bus driver, who was yet to be identified, fled the spot after the accident and raids were being conducted to arrest him.

Deputy commissioner of police (Manesar) Rajesh Kumar said they have recorded the statement of the eyewitnesses and have booked the bus driver under sections 337 (hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 279 (rash driving), 427 (damage) and 304-A (death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.

The bus, which was heading towards Jhajjar from Gurugram, was impounded by the police. The accident led to a traffic jam that stretched for over three kilometres on the carriageway towards the city and took about two hours to clear, police said.

The Gurugram-sultanpur Road witnesses heavy traffic on weekends as it serves as a link to Jhajjar, Rohtak and Badli, among other neighbouring areas. The two-lane road has remained prone to accidents with at least 11 vehicular accidents being reported from here since January this year. The residents in the area have been demanding that the road be widened for past two years, but to no avail.
