Sack Sidhu, book his wife for murder: SAD
CHANDIGARH: The core committee of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Sunday demanded immediate sacking of local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu and registration of a murder case against his wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu as well as the organisers of the Dussehra function close to a railway track leading to the death of 61 people in Amritsar.
The core committee led by former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and attended by SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal and other senior leaders rejected the magisterial inquiry ordered by the Congress government and demanded a judicial inquiry by a sitting judge of the Punjab and Haryana high court.
The committee condemned the “cover-up” operation by CM Captain Amarinder Singh and demanded registration of a fresh case in the matter as per the statement of the victims’ families.
The committee said the Congress government was putting the blame on the railways. It said this was being done despite the fact that the victim families were ready to present irrefutable evidence against a Congress councillor as well as Navjot Kaur Sidhu for abetting the tragedy. The committee also passed a resolution demanding ₹1-crore compensation each and a government job to the kin of the deceased.
Those who attended the meeting included SGPC chief Gobind Singh Longowal, Jathedar Tota Singh, Balwinder Singh Bhundar, Charanjit Singh Atwal, Nirmal Singh Kahlon among others.
