LUCKNOW: The younger son of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council chairman Ramesh Yadav was murdered under mysterious circumstances in Yadav’s official quarters in Darul Shafa in Lucknow here on Sunday.

The family initially claimed that the youth Abhijit Yadav, 22, died of ill-health but post-mortem has confirmed “asphyxia caused by strangulation” as the cause of death. “Based on the post mortem report, we have started the process to lodge an FIR of murder regarding the incident,” said senior superintendent of police Kalanidhi Naithani .

Abhijit, a BSC part 2 student, lived at the Darul Shafa quarters with his mother Meera Yadav and elder brother Abhishek. His father Ramesh Yadav lives separately in an official residence.

Meera Yadav told reporters that her husband Ramesh did not give her the rights of a wife. She went on to say that the life of Abhishek was also in danger.

According to police officials, Meera and Abhishek were at home when Abhijit died. Initially, Meera had told the police that Abhijit returned home about 11 pm on Saturday and complained of chest pain. Police was informed that when she went to wake him in the morning, he did not get up. She called Abhishek, who found that Abhijit was not breathing and there was no pulse.

The police reached the quarters but the family members refused to lodge any complaint and decided to take the body for cremation. However, police intervened, suspecting foul play. “Abhijit’s body was seized from the cremation ground and sent for post-mortem,” said Naithani.

Police later handed over the body to the family for cremation.

So far, police have not received any complaint from the family. “We will ask the family to submit a police complaint at the earliest...,” said the SSP .

Ramesh Yadav said he and his family were in shock.

“We are all in shock after the incident... The family is ready to cooperate with the police in the investigation.”
