Hisar: Protesting workers of several unions, under the banner of Sarvakaramchari Sangh, were cane-charged at Bhuna town of Fatehabad district when they tried to block th way of chief minister (CM) Manohar Lal Khattar, who was en route Bhuna, on Wednesday.

The workers’ unions were protesting to support the chakka jam call by the Haryana Roadways union leaders in the state.

The police also used water cannons to disperse the protesters as the situation turned serious and the workers blocked the road. Khattar was on his way to Bhuna to address a public meeting, after inaugurating a marathon ‘run for unity’ in Sirsa district to mark the birthday of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

As the workers came to know of the CM’S visit, they, including women, reached the scheduled road for a protest, sending the local administration into a tizzy.

A heavy police force rushed to the spot and tried to talk and pacify the protesters, who wanted to show black flags to the CM. The police then ordered lathicharge on the protesters to disperse them and also used water cannons. Some protesters also received injuries during the lathicharge. Meanwhile, the police department also changed the route of the CM.

The protesting unions were also lathicharged at Bhiwani on Wednesday.

MIXED RESPONSE TO PROTEST IN HISAR

In Hisar, a mixed response was witnessed on the 16th day of the protest. The protest also paralysed sanitation in the city as people could be seen taking garbage out of the city to dump near Dhandoor village.

Some of the Haryana Roadways buses continued to ply on Sirsa-hisar-delhi routes.
