Two drunk brothers create ruckus at airport immigration

NEWDELHI: High drama ensued at the immigration area of the Indira Gandhi International Airport when two Indians, brothers, allegedly drunk, created a ruckus and jostled with an immigration officer on Saturday. Armed Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, who had to be summoned to the spot, handed over the two men to the Delhi Police, after which they were arrested.

According to the deputy commissioner of police (IGIA), Sanjay Bhatia, a complaint was received from immigration officers around 12.30 am that two men, identified as Rajesh Kumar and Parvinder Nath, from Punjab, who had arrived at the Delhi airport from Dubai, were demanding priority immigration clearance.

“Immigration staff alleged that Kumar and Nath approached the immigration counter inebriated. They, allegedly, did not follow the queue and started arguing with immigration officers when asked to maintain decorum.

“Officers said the two men even abused the officers and tried to drag and manhandle them. Kumar even allegedly forced himself out of the immigration counter. They also created a ruckus at the diplomatic counter,” Bhatia said.

Another immigration officer said their staff then called the armed CISF personnel for assistance. “The two men were then pinned down by CISF personnel. The Delhi Police was called and both were handed over for legal action. The incident led to a disruption and delay in immigration services as many passengers, both foreign and domestic, had to wait till the two unruly passengers were pacified,” the officer said.
