Ministers face tough questions from their party legislators

-

CHANDIGARH : Some ruling party MLAS on Wednesday put some tough questions to ministers in the House on issues concerning their assemblies.

Congress MLA from Amloh, Randeep Singh Nabha, repeatedly sought from industry minister Sham Sundar Arora the exact time frame for releasing funds to set up steel chamber at Mandi Gobindgarh.

During the Question Hour, Nabha pointed out that a sum of ₹15 crore was promised by the government for setting up steel chamber and industrial training institute. “You give me the exact time frame for releasing the funds,” Nabha asked him.

Arora, who was unable to give time frame, replied that funds would be disbursed as soon as the proposal from the steel industry association was received but Nabha continuously asked him the same question. After Speaker intervened, the industry minister said that funds would be released within six months.

Earlier, Congress MLAS Rana Gurjit Singh and Hardev Singh Laadi in a supplementary question asked Punjab PWD minister Vijayinder Singla to recarpet the Phillaur-nakodar road and four-laning of Phillaur-kapurthla roads, leading to Sultanpur Lodhi in the wake of 550 birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. The founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev had spent first 14 years of his life at Sultanpur Lodhi.

“You go from Phillaur to Kapurthala or come from Phagwara, you will find all the roads in bad condition. There had been partiality against Doaba also,” said Rana Gurjit, a former minister. Minister Singla said he would call all the legislators of Doaba region and seek their suggestions on improving the condition of roads.
