THE COURT WILL PRONOUNCE QUANTUM OF SENTENCE AGAINST TWO ASIS TODAY
CHANDIGARH: A special court dealing with vigilance cases on Thursday held two Haryana police officials guilty in a sixyear-old corruption case.
ASIS Jagdish Ram and Jitender Kumar were convicted by the court of additional district and sessions judge Sushil Kumar Garg. The Haryana police officials were booked under Sections 7,8, 13, of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The quantum of sentence will be pronounced on Friday.
The matter dates back to May 2013 when the vigilance department of the Chandigarh police had arrested an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the Haryana police red-handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from the complainant.
According to vigilance officials, ASI Jagdish Ram was then posted in Haryana CM security at his Sector 2 residence. As per the chargesheet, it was stated that he accepted illegal gratification on behalf of ASI Jatinder Kumar, who is deployed with the CIA (crime investigation agency) Kaithal and SHO, Kaithal police station.
The duo had demanded a bribe from Gurmeet Singh, a resident of Mauli Jagran, on the assurance of favour in a cheating and immigration fraud case. Gurmeet later approached the vigilance department following which the trap was laid.
