Liqour baron, nephew among 4 booked for forgery

SAD LEADER MANDEEP SINGH HAD ACCUSED THEM OF FRAUDULENT TRANSFER OF ₹15 CR FROM HIS COMPANY’S ACCOUNT TO OTHER ACCOUNTS RELATED TO DODA IN 2012

ABOHAR:LIQUOR baron and prime accused in the Bhim Sain Tank murder case of December 2015, Shiv Lal Doda, and three others have been booked for forgery and cheating. The complainan­t, SAD leader and former Punjab Mandi Board vice-chairman, Mandeep Singh, had accused them of fraudulent transfer of around ₹15 crore from his company account, of M/S Mandeep Singh and Company, to a number of other accounts of men and companies related to Doda between March 13 to March 26, 2012.

MODUS OPERANDI

“Shiv Lal Doda, in connivance with his son Gagan Doda and nephew Amit Doda opened an account in Oriental Bank of Commerce, Abohar under the name of M/S Mandeep Singh and Company and forged signatures to transfer big money,” his complaint read. He had also alleged that ₹14 crore was transferre­d into the account of Gagan Wines, operated by Shiv Lal Doda, and ₹1 crore into the account of his nephew Amit Doda, director in New Gagan Wines.

QUESTIONIN­G BY IT DEPARTMENT

“It was only after questionin­g by the income tax department about such a huge transactio­n into the said account in his name, did he come to know about the incident following which he raised an alarm and demanded investigat­ion from local police,” said reports. Shiv Lal and Amit did not join police investigat­ion into the complaint. Both are lodged in jail in connection with the Bhim Sain murder case.

After completing its investigat­ion into this forgery complaint, the police booked Shiv Lal Doda, Amit Doda, Davinder Kumar and Raj Kumar; Gagan Doda was given a clean chit.

CHARGES AGAINST ACCUSED

The accused have been booked under Sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
