Interstate drug racket busted, 2 held with 1.5-kg heroin

JALANDHAR: The commission­erate police on Thursday busted an interstate drug smuggling gang after arresting two persons and seizing 1.5 kg heroin from their possession in Partappura Adda here.

The accused have been identified as Subeg Singh alias Babba,35, of Latian village in Kapurthala and his brother-inlaw Jatinder Singh,20, alias Gobinda, an ITI student, from Daulewala village in Moga.

Addressing the mediaperso­ns, commission­er of police (CP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that inspector Resham Singh, head of Jandiala police post, received a tip-off about the accused and nabbed them in Partappura Adda after recovering 1 kg heroin from Subeg and remaining from Jatinder Singh.

CP said, in preliminar­y interrogat­ion, Subeg Singh revealed that he worked as a labourer and is also a drug addict.

Accused, already facing two drug cases in Kapurthala, started smuggling the contraband for easy money.

Bhullar informed that Subeg used to bring heroin from Delhi’s Dwarka area for ₹7 lakh per kg and sold it for ₹1200-1300 per gram in nearby villages for quick money.

“Subeg had already sold 1.5kg contraband after buying it from Delhi in last two months. He used to contact the Delhi-based supplier through Whatsapp calls only,” he said.police said that two of them have been booked under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act.
