‘My work will speak for itself’
What were the high points of your five-year term?
I had promised my electorate to develop Hamirpur as a model constituency. I am glad that we have been able to launch a host of initiatives and programmes to improve the quality of life for about 1.8 million voters. Besides getting some big projects, I have been able to implement a host of centrally sponsored schemes.
One thing you wished to do as an MP, but couldn’t? Why?
Development is always a work in progress; there’s no end. I have had a very satisfying tenure.
Would you like to contest again? Why should people re-elect you?
In a democracy, politics is the best mean to serve maximum number of people. Before entering electoral politics, I did my level best to create quality infrastructure for budding cricketers and also built world-class stadium in Dharamshala.
Your rivals say you are more visible in power circles of Delhi than in the constituency. Your take.
When people can’t match up to your performance, they tend to malign you with lies. I simply ignore such people and continue to work with extreme passion and dedication for my people and constituency.
Will you be seen in state politics any time soon?
I have given my 100% as an MP, as the president of Yuva Morcha and as chief whip of the party. It is up to my party to assign me the responsibility.
Your rivals say time is over for the Dhumal family in politics.
Only time will tell. My father has devoted his entire life for the welfare of people and development of Himachal.
