JAMMU: Three Hizbul Mujahideen militants, involved in terror strikes, including the killings of two senior leaders of the BJP and RSS, in Kishtwar district in last one year have been arrested. This was announced by Jammu
IGP Mukesh Singh on Monday. “Following the trio’s arrest, all four cases of terror strikes in Kishtwar in the last one year have been solved,” he added.
JAMMU: Police on Monday arrested three Hizbul Mujahideen militants in connection with four terror incidents, including the killings of BJP leader Anil Parihar, his brother Ajeet Parihar and RSS leader Chandrakant Sharma in Kishtwar district in the past 10 months.
Addressing media persons in Jammu, inspector general of police Mukesh Singh said, “In the past 10 months, four terror incidents had taken place in Kishtwar district including the killings of Parihar brothers, RSS leader Chandrakant Sharma and his PSO.”
The arrested militants were identified as Nisar Ahmed Sheikh, Nishad Ahmed and Azad Hussain, all Kishtwar residents. Further efforts are on to nab other active terrorists of the outfit, which hatched the conspiracy in 2016-17 to revive militancy in the Chenab valley, said Singh, adding they will be brought to book very soon.
The IGP said the brain behind the conspiracy was Jehangir Saroori. “Jehangir connived with Nisar Ahmed Sheikh, Osama and other militants to revive Hizbul Mujahideen in Chenab valley,” Singh said.
“To revive militancy Jehangir Saroori, Osama, Haroon of Doda, Zaheed Nisar Ahmed Sheikh, Nishad Ahmed and Azad Hussain joined hands. In the meantime, one Rustam of Kishtwar also joined them. On the instructions of Nisar and Osama, Rustam built
hideouts in the houses of Nishad and Azad, which were used before and after every terror related incident in Kishtwar
region in the past one year,” he said.
“We have arrested Nisar Ahmed Sheikh, Nishad and Asad Hussain. Their hideouts were raided, and arms and ammunition including magazines, rifles and pistols were recovered,” he added.
The terrorists made their presence felt in the town on November 1, 2018 when they shot dead BJP leader Anil Parihar and his brother Ajit Parihar. In the second strike, they snatched the service rifle of the deputy commissioner’s PSO Daleep Kumar on March 8. On April 9, they gunned down RSS leader Chanderkant Sharma and his PSO.
They again struck PDP district president Sheikh Nasir Hussain’s house at Gourian village on September 13, and escaped with the service rifle of his personal security officer.
