Jandiala shootout: Three accused brought to Ludhiana for questioning
LUDHIANA: A day after anti-drug special task force (STF) arrested three persons after a shootout at Jandiala in Amritsar district for allegedly receiving a cache of arms and ammunition from Pakistan, the accused were brought to Ludhiana on Wednesday for further interrogation.
The STF team is questioning the accused — Sukhraj Singh, alias Sukha, of Lakhanpal village in Gurdaspur; Bhupinder Singh, alias Bhinda, of Chande village, Amritsar; and Rajpal Singh, alias Raja, of Rasoolpur Kalan village, Amritsar, to track down their handlers.
Officials privy to the investigations said, “The accused, who are on eight-day police remand, have shared phone numbers of a few persons linked with them, but those numbers belong to a foreign country. However, the police are verifying the details of the case.”
Inspector Harbans Singh, in-charge, STF, Ludhiana, said, “As of now, we have not got any concrete information from the accused. Their questioning is in progress.”
STF assistant inspector (AIG) general Snehdeep Sharma said it will take a couple of days to get some fruitful information from the accused.
On Tuesday, Sharma had said that during preliminary investigations, it was found that accused were used for transportation of weapons and the STF is yet to ascertain the identity of the persons to whom these were to be delivered.
