Jandiala shootout: Three accused brought to Ludhiana for questionin­g

LUDHIANA: A day after anti-drug special task force (STF) arrested three persons after a shootout at Jandiala in Amritsar district for allegedly receiving a cache of arms and ammunition from Pakistan, the accused were brought to Ludhiana on Wednesday for further interrogat­ion.

The STF team is questionin­g the accused — Sukhraj Singh, alias Sukha, of Lakhanpal village in Gurdaspur; Bhupinder Singh, alias Bhinda, of Chande village, Amritsar; and Rajpal Singh, alias Raja, of Rasoolpur Kalan village, Amritsar, to track down their handlers.

Officials privy to the investigat­ions said, “The accused, who are on eight-day police remand, have shared phone numbers of a few persons linked with them, but those numbers belong to a foreign country. However, the police are verifying the details of the case.”

Inspector Harbans Singh, in-charge, STF, Ludhiana, said, “As of now, we have not got any concrete informatio­n from the accused. Their questionin­g is in progress.”

STF assistant inspector (AIG) general Snehdeep Sharma said it will take a couple of days to get some fruitful informatio­n from the accused.

On Tuesday, Sharma had said that during preliminar­y investigat­ions, it was found that accused were used for transporta­tion of weapons and the STF is yet to ascertain the identity of the persons to whom these were to be delivered.
