Gang that looted at gunpoint busted; 5 held, 5 on the run
TARN TARAN : Police on Saturday busted a gang involved in robbing people at gunpoint from Chappa village, 20 kms from the district headquarters.
The arrested men were identified as Jarnail Singh aka Jaila of Jiobala village, Sikandar Singh aka Khandu and Chamkaur Singh of Gagobuha village, Gurnek Singh of Sohan village and Rajwinder Singh of Buraj village in Tarn Taran.
With the arrest of the accused, police have also recovered three firearms, two sharp-edged weapons and two stolen bikes. Police said the accused were arrested while plotting to rob people.
Superintendent of police (Sp-investigation) Jagjit Singh Walia said a team of crime investigation agency (CIA) wing led by inspector Harit Sharma was patrolling near Chabhal town when a tip-off was received about accused’s presence in the village.
“The informer told the police the accused were hiding in Chappa village and were planning a robbery. The team immediately conducted a raid and arrested them,” he said.
“We have also recovered two .12 bore rifles , a ,12 bore country made pistol , five rounds, two stolen motorcycles and two sharpedged weapons,” Walia added.
The accused also told informed police about five more members of the gang who managed to escape during the raid. They recently robbed a government teacher at Mari Megha village, snatched ₹36,000 from a man in Kot Dharam Chand
Kalan and had looted a motorcycle from a youth at Sohal, at gunpoint.”
The accused have been booked under Sections 399 (making preparation to commit dacoity), 402 (assembling for purpose of committing dacoity) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 25-27-54-59 of the Arms Act at Chabhal police station.
