Ex-moga SSP’S plea on FIR dismissed
FARIDKOT: The Faridkot district and sessions court on Tuesday dismissed a plea filed by former Moga senior superintendent of police (SSP) Charanjit Singh Sharma seeking status report of the first information report (FIR) registered in Behbal Kalan police firing case in 2015.
The former SSP had moved an application in September, demanding the status report of the FIR registered at Bajakhana police station on October 14, 2015, on the complaint of Amarjit Singh, then SHO.
District and sessions judge Harpal Singh dismissed the application, saying the accused has no right to demand status report of FIR registered in 2015.
The judge also dismissed two revision petitions filed by Sharma seeking documents, including statements of some victims recorded under Section 161 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CRPC) by the special investigation team (SIT) that is probing the sacrilege and police firing cases. His earlier petitions in this regard were dismissed by a judicial magistrate.
In the two applications, the former SSP had also alleged that the SIT was hiding some facts, like mentioning names of some victims in the chargesheet, but not submitting their statements; and not supplying copies of these to him, as per law.
The hearing was adjourned to November 20 when the court will hear arguments on framing of charges against the accused.
In April, the SIT had filed the chargesheet against the former SSP in the police firing incident at Behbal Kalan, wherein two Sikh protesters were killed, in October 2015.
