Gangster Bhagwanpuria running drug racket from Patiala jail: Police
POLICE SAID GHUGGI HAD GOT THE HEROIN FROM JODHBIR SINGH, ALIAS JODHA, OF DEVIDASPURA AND BALJINDER SINGH ‘BULLY’ OF JANDIALA
TARN TARAN : Punjab’s notorious gangster, Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, has been running a drug racket from jail, said Tarn Taran police on Saturday. This came to light after a Jandiala man—rajandeep Singh alias Ghuggi of Shaheed Udham Singh Chowk— was caught with 1 kg heroin in Jandiala Guru town in Amritsar district said the police.
Police said Ghuggi had got the heroin from Jodhbir Singh aka Jodha of Devidaspura and Baljinder Singh aka Bully of Jandiala. They said Bulli is a close aide of Bhagwanpura and has been in contact with him.
Currently lodged in Patiala jail, Bhagwanpuria was earlier in Amritsar central jail. The gangster was sentenced for several crimes including murder, attempt to murder, extortions, drug smuggling etc, said Amritsar jail superintendent, Arshdeep Singh Gill.
On Saturday, senior superintendent of police Tarn Taran, Dhuruv Dhaiya said, “A team of crime investigation agency (CIA) wing of Tarn Taran police, led by sub-inspector Paramjit Singh, had set up naka at T-point near Ekal Gadda village which falls under Goindwal Sahib sub-division. The team saw a white car approaching the naka, and on suspicion they signaled to the driver to stop. However, Ghuggi who was driving the car, accompanied by aide Bablu, tried to flee.”
“The police team nabbed Ghuggi who tried to get away with a polythene bag, but Bablu escaped. The polybag had 1.55 kg heroin. During interrogation, Ghuggi disclosed that he had bought the consignment from Jodhbir Singh and Baljinder Singh, the latter being a close aide of Bhagwanpuria,” the SSP said.
“Investigation suggests that Bhagwanpuria is involved in this case. After examining recent cases of heroin recovery, we have concluded that Bhagwanpuria has spread his network in Amritsar and Tarn Taran area. We will soon get him on production warrant in order to break his network,” said SSP Dhaiya.
A case has been registered under Section 21-61-85 of NDPS Act at Vaironwal police station against the accused.
This is not the first time Bhagwanpuria’s name has emerged in drug racket cases. Earlier in September, Tarn Taran police had arrested two aides of gangster Sonu Kangla and recovered 400 gm heroin from them. The two had said they were being instructed by Kangla, who is serving time in Amritsar jail, and is a close aide of Bhagwanpuria.
