ASI caught taking ₹4,000 bribe in Pathankot

PATHANKOT : Vigilance bureau, Pathankot, nabbed an assistant sub inspector (ASI), posted at Mammon Cantonment police station, while accepting a bribe of ₹4,000, here on Tuesday. The action comes after Ravinder Kumar of Pathankot informed VB sleuths about ASI demanding bribe to settle his payment dispute with one of his customers.

Deputy superinten­dent of police (DSP-VB) Satpal said that Ravinder had approached police to settle a dispute of ₹1.5 lakh from some person and had lodged a complaint with Mammon police station.

The DSP said that Ravinder allegedly had paid ₹2,000 to the ASI Raghuvir to initiate the investigat­ion, however, after some time the ASI again demanded ₹4,000 which drove him to take the help of VB.

“We gave the complainan­t marked currency. As soon as Ravinder handed over the bribe money to the ASI, officials of vigilance bureau frisked the ASI and found him in possession of the marked currency. The ASI was arrested and a case under Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against him.

DSP Ashwani Kumar said he was nabbed on a complaint from Gurpreet Singh of Ramuwala Nawa village.

“The complainan­t’s father Jugraj Singh had filed a complaint in Mehna police station that Gora Singh of Rania village had forcibly taken away a fridge and cylinder from his house. ASI Kuldeep Singh was appointed investigat­ion officer. He demanded ₹2,500 to act,” DSP said. A case has been registered under Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
