KARNAL:FIVE persons were booked for kidnapping a block samiti member from Bilaspur of Yamunanagar district on Thursday.

The FIR was registered on the complaint of Rekha Devi, wife of block samiti member from ward number 5, Rajinder Kumar. She alleged that her husband was kidnapped by some people a day before he was scheduled to cast vote in favour of no confidence motion moved against chairman Mahipal Singh, on Friday.

Rajinder, who returned home on Friday, said that he was given sedatives after being kidnapped and today he was dropped at Nehru Park in Yamunanagar.

A case was registered under Sections 365, 354, 341, 148 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Bilaspur police station against Abhishek, Bablu, Mange Ram, Yashpal and Harpal Singh.

Devi said that incident took place on Thursday when she and her husband were going to Bilaspur and the accused allegedly stopped their car near Ajitpur village and manhandled them.

“They put my husband in their car and fled,” she said.

On Friday, Rekha along with her supporters and family members held a protest at mini-secretariat, Yamunanagar, and also raised the issue with deputy commissioner Mukul Kumar and superintendent of police (SP) Kuldeep Singh.

According to Rajinder, 18 of the total 26 members of the block samiti, had moved an application for no confidence motion against Mahipal Singh, and additional deputy commissioner KK Bhadoo had fixed Friday for voting but it couldn’t take place after the alleged incident.

Mahipal refuted the allegations. He said, “The question of kidnapping doesn’t arrise as i already have majority and I will prove it when required.”
