STF team members summoned twice by SDM, no compliance

MOGA: A month after Tarn Taran resident, Jobanpreet Singh, 23, wanted for his role in the supply of heroin in Moga district, was shot dead in ‘accidental’ police firing at a naka at Mehna village in Moga on December 19, police officials from the special task force (STF) concerned are yet to appear before the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) probing the incident.

The SDM Satwant Singh has summoned the STF team twice, but his orders have not been complied with. The victim’s co-passenger in the Maruti Swift car, Gurchet Singh, also wanted for drug-related cases, was sent in judicial custody after discharge from hospital.

“The STF team has been summoned twice, first in December and when no one appeared last week they were again asked to appear at my office to record their statements. Senior officers of the STF have now assured me that the police personnel will record their statements soon,” the SDM added.

WIFE MOVES HC FOR CBI INQUIRY

Alleging that the police had concocted a “fake” story in the FIR,

Gurchet ‘s wife Amandeep Kaur wife has filed a writ petition in Punjab and Haryana high court seeking that the case be shifted to the CBI. She has also submitted a letter with similar demands to the chairperso­n of National Commission for Scheduled Castes.

Amandeep, in her petition, claimed that her husband had been implicated. “Manpreet Singh, who was a friend of my husband asked him to go to Chandigarh with him on December 19. My husband had disclosed to me that when he, along with Jobanpreet left for Chandigarh, Manpreet accompanie­d by a group of 12 people met them at Moga. Suspecting danger Gurchet and Jobanpreet tried to flee from the spot, but they (the Manpreet group) opened fire. Gurchet was driving the car and after being hit by the bullets, he drove to a private hospital at Kot Ise Khan village,” she added.
