MARCH 18

Chandigarh reports its first Covid-19 case, as a 23-year-old management student and resident of Sector 21 tests positive upon returning from the UK. Later, her mother, brother and a few other contacts also found infected.

APRIL 1

First healthcare worker tests positive at PGIMER. The 32-year-old nursing officer had attended to a Nayagoan patient in the PGIMER emergency ward without any protective gear

APRIL 3

City reports its first recovery, as a 26-year-old doctor from the UK is discharged from the PGIMER

APRIL 18

One month after the outbreak, the number of confirmed cases stands at 23, though active cases are 13. The test positivity rate is reported to be 5.8%

APRIL 24

A 30-year-old operation theatre attendant at GMCH-32, resident of the congested Bapu Dham Colony in Sector 26, becomes 28th Covid patient. Area is sealed.

APRIL 28

With fresh cases being reported from Bapu Dham Colony, the city’s tally more than doubles within four days, crossing 50 and reaching 59

MAY 3

Chandigarh records first death, as an 82-year-old woman, who was a resident of Sector 18, and undergoing treatment at a hospital in Panchkula succumbs to Covid-19

MAY 4

The tally reaches 100, with active cases at 80 and test positivity rate at 6.07%

MAY 8

Second fatality reported after a man from Hallomajra tests positive for Covid-19, two days after his death at GMSH-16. Active cases stand at 126

MAY 9

A 62-year-old man of Bapu Dham Colony tests positive posthumous­ly, as 20 more infections reported from the locality the same day, making it the biggest single-day spike. Number of cases crosses 150 and test positivity rate reaches 8.2%

MAY 19

Chandigarh tally doubles in 15 days to reach 200. Test positivity rate comes down to 6.5%
