Two cases each in Mohali, P’kula, none in UT

CHANDIGARH : Two new Covid-19 cases each surfaced in Mohali and Panchkula on Friday, while Chandigarh reported no new case after 12 days.

In Mohali, a 33-year-old NRI from Oman and a 29-year-old woman from Dappar village tested positive, taking the district count to 112.

The woman had delivered a child at the Army Hospital in Ambala on May 27, following which she was tested and found infected with coronaviru­s.

Mohali civil surgeon Dr Manjit Singh said they had traced all her contacts and sealed the area in Dappar village where she lived. “She remains admitted at the Army Hospital only,” he said

The NRI, a resident of Dashmesh Nagar in Zirakpur, had landed at the Delhi airport on May 22 and reached Mohali by road after which he was quarantine­d at a hotel

The civil surgeon said the patient had been shifted to Gian Sagar Hospital on Banur

Of the 112 cases in Mohali, 102 people have been discharged so far, a recovery rate of 91%. Three people have succumbed to the virus, a fatality rate of 2.6%. The district now has seven active cases.

AHMEDABAD COUPLE +VE IN PANCHKULA

A software engineer couple was the latest to test positive in Panchkula.

However, the duo will not be counted in the district tally,

which is 26, as the couple hails from Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

“The man and his wife, aged 30 and 24, respective­ly, reached Kalka following a death in their family. They flew from Ahmedabad to Delhi and travelled by road to Kalka. The man was symptomati­c when he reached the town and gave samples on May 28. On Friday, their reports came positive,” a health official said.

The couple has been moved to the isolation ward of Panchkula civil hospital in Sector 6.

On Thursday, a Panchkula woman was found positive in Faridabad. A resident of Sector 12, here, she had returned from the US. She is now the only active case from Panchkula. With 25 patients recovering, the district has a recovery rate of 96.15%.

UT TALLY REMAINS 288

Chandigarh reported no new positive case after 12 days. It was on May 17 last when no new case surfaced. With this, the count of Covid-19 cases in the city remains 288, out of which 95 are active and rest 189 are discharged, a recovery rate of 65%. Four patients have died due to the virus, a fatality rate of 1.3%.

In the daily review meeting, UT administra­tor VP Singh Badnore specifical­ly directed that necessary preparatio­ns should be made to fight water and airborne diseases, which are likely to come in monsoon.

Health secretary Arun Kumar Gupta said 116 persons had arrived from abroad, out of which 29 were sent home after necessary testing. Similarly, 281 domestic flyers had also arrived in Chandigarh and advised to do self-monitoring at home as per the central guidelines.
