DEHRADUN: A 27-year-old commando of the National Security Guard (NSG), popularly known as Black Cats, was found living inside a cave in the jungles of Pauri Garhwal district on Saturday evening, police said on Monday.

The commando who hailed from a village in Pauri Garhwal district was missing from his NSG unit in Delhi and the officials of the elite commando unit had informed his family about this early May, said police. “The commando was found living in the cave by some women who had gone to the jungle to cut grass. They soon returned and informed other villagers about it. Villagers then went there and brought him out of the cave,” said Vandana Sharma, circle officer, Pauri.

“As the jungle where he was found was near to his village, the villagers recognised him and soon called his family members. His family members, who were tense after knowing that he was missing, were relieved to find him and then took him home.” The police officer said,

“We asked him about how he reached there, since how long he was living in the cave inside the jungle, but he failed to answer any as he seemed to be mentally unstable. He was scared of the police and was getting aggressive due to which he had to be controlled by at least 4-5 people.”.

Sharma said the jawan has been kept in “home quarantine considering the pandemic; at least three of his family members are keeping an eye on him because of his unusual behaviour.” She said the family members have communicated his NSG unit that he was found in the cave. “A procedure is on to send him to back to his unit as per the norms of Indian Army. He would soon be taken back to his unit,” Sharma said.

We asked him about how he reached there, and since how long he was living in the cave, but he failed to answer.
