Kin to get job in a month if GMC staffer dies: Soni

AMRITSAR:PUNJAB medical education and research minister Om Parkash Soni on Monday said that jobs on compassion­ate ground will be given to the family members of the staff of the state’s Government Medical Colleges (GMCS) within a month in case of death of an employee.

Handing over appointmen­t letters to six persons at Government Medical College, Amritsar, on compassion­ate grounds, the minister said the medical colleges are playing a key role in treating the Covid-19 patients besides being hubs of virus testing.

“In view of the dedication the employees are showing while treating the Covid-19 patients, their welfare will be taken care of with utmost priority. I have ordered the officials concerned to not delay such appointmen­ts,” said Soni while speaking on the occasion.

So far, 1.56 lakh coronaviru­s tests have been conducted in all the government medical colleges in the state and the facilities and capacities have been enhancedsi­gnificantl­y,themedical education and research minister said.

“Relaxation­s are being given to people so that they could earn their livelihood­s. But they have to take precaution­s by maintainin­g social distancing and wearing masks. The residents don’t need to worry as the situation is under control,” he added.
