Ahead of Amarnath Yatra, LET terror module busted
JAMMU: Amid spike in terror activities in Kashmir and ahead of the Amarnath Yatra, security forces busted a terror funding module of the proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-taiba (LET) here on Monday.
Jammu zone inspector general of police (IGP) Mukesh Singh said, “On the basis of information received from a reliable source, special operations group (SOG), Jammu, the anti-terror arm of the J&K Police and army has busted a terror funding module of the LET.”
“LET had activated a module of its members for carrying out terror activities in J&K, particularly in the Jammu region, and in furtherance to this, a delivery of funds was to take place in Jammu,” said the IGP.
“A team of Jammu SOG and Peer Mitha Police apprehended one Mubashir Bhat, son of Farooq Ahmed Bhat, a native of Sazan Doda, who was part of the module and had been tasked by the handlers from across (the border) to visit Jammu and collect a consignment of Hawala money for further use by the terrorists and their supporters,” said Singh.
₹1.5 LAKH CONCEALED IN TIFFIN
“During the search, a bag containing 1.5 lakh rupees was recovered, which was concealed in a tiffin box,” he said.
“Questioning revealed that the money was sent by one Haroon, a self-styled commander of LET from Pakistan, to be delivered to terrorists through their overground workers in Doda,” he said.
A case has been registered in Peer Mitha Police Station under sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
On June 29, following the killing of a Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Masood in an encounter in south Kashmir, DGP Dilbag Singh had said Doda district had become free of militants.
