29 succumb to virus in a day in Punjab, 894 test positive

LUDHIANA/PATIALA/AMRITSAR/ BATHINDA/JALANDHAR: Punjab on Wednesday reported a record 29 deaths due to coronaviru­s pushing the toll to 491, while 894 people contracted the virus taking the case tally to 19,856.

Nine fatalities were reported from Ludhiana, five from Patiala, four from Jalandhar, three from Gurdaspur, two from Sangrur and one each from Amritsar, Faridkot, Ferozepur, Mansa, Kapurthala and Rupnagar, according to the bulletin released by the state government.

Meanwhile, 452 patients were discharged. With this, 12,943 people have been cured of the infection and there are 6,422 active cases in the state. Besides nine deaths, Ludhiana district reported 306 fresh Covid-19 cases. Those tested positive include 19 health workers, 11 pregnant women, five cops and two undertrial­s.

Five people died, while 184 tested positive for coronaviru­s in Patiala district. Of these, 102 are from Patiala city, 17 from Rajpura, seven from Patran, five from Nabha, four each from Sanour and Samana and 45 from different villages across the district.

A 56-year-old man of Tej Nagar in Amritsar died after testing positive for Covid19 at Government Medical College and Hospital.

The district also reported 67 fresh cases. Two residents of Gurdaspur district succumbed to Covid-19 . Also on Wednesday, 47 fresh Covid-19 cases were reported from Gurdaspur district.a 67-year-old woman of Sangrur died of coronaviru­s and 13 contracted the infection.

14 FROM CM’S SECURITY DETAIL TEST POSITIVE

As many as 14 personnel deployed in chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s security tested positive for Covid-19 .

They include 13 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans and a commando.
