The Jammu and Kashmir administra­tion on Tuesday decided against extending the high-speed 4G mobile internet facility outside the districts of Ganderbal and Udhampur, citing apprehensi­ons about possible misuse by those indulging in terror activities.

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday recorded 14 deaths and biggest single-day spike of 1,355 fresh Covid-19 infections, taking the total number of positive cases in the Union territory to 45,925.

The region is recording more than 1,000 fresh cases on a daily basis for the past six days.

As many as 785 people tested positive in Jammu division, including 62 travelers, while 570 cases were reported from Kashmir, of which 17 were travelers.

Besides, 491 more people have been cured and discharged, taking the overall recoveries to 33,251, which accounts for a recovery rate of 72.4%. Active cases stand at 11,859 and a total 11,07,406 tests have been conducted in the UT so far.

A government spokespers­on said 74 people were discharged in Jammu division and 417 in Kashmir. Of the total, 25,937 were cured in Kashmir and 7,314 in Jammu division.

The spokespers­on said 14 more people succumbed to the disease in the Ut—eight in Jammu division and six in Kashmir. The death toll has risen to 815. In Jammu division, the highest jump was witnessed in Jammu district with 483 cases while 59 people tested positive in Udhampur district. In Kashmir, the highest number of fresh cases was recorded in Srinagar where 210 more people tested positive, followed by Budgam at 94.Srinagar is the worst affected district as the number of total cases in the district have reached 10,508 with 242 deaths
