KARNAL : Amid threats of protest by the members of farmer unions, the Karnal district administration has made elaborate arrangements for chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s visit in Kaimal village of the district on Sunday.

Evensome residents of the Kaimla village have also extended support to the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Charuni) and took out a protest march against the chief minister’s proposed “kisan mahapanchayat” in Kaimla village.

The protesters alleged that that chief minister’s “kisan mahapanchayat” is in favour of contentious agriculture laws.

Karnal deputy commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav and Karnal SP Ganga Ram Punia held a meeting with some farmer union leaders from Karnal district and sought their support not to disturb the chief minister’s programme.

“We held a discussion with the farmer union leaders and requested them not to disturb the chief minister’s visit and we have told them of stringent action if they tried to disturb the kisan panchayat as it may create a law and order situation”, the deputy commissioner said.

He said that the farmer leaders have agreed not to disturb the CM’S programme but they are allowed to continue with their ongoing protest at Bastara toll plaza.

Residents of Kaimal also held a meeting and said they were not favour of CM’S programme, the DC said. “The programme was finalised after the consent of villagers, but if anybody tries to disturb it, we will take strict action,” the DC said.

Karnal SP Ganga Ram Punia said police deployment will be made at all entry points of the village and duty magistrates will be appointed to monitor law and order situation.
