3 held for killing youth in Jandiala on January 1
One of those arrested is a close associate of gangsters Jaggu Bhagwanpuria; four country-made pistols were also recovered from the accused
AMRITSAR: The Amritsar rural district police on Sunday arrested three persons, including a close associate of gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, in connection with the brutal murder of a man in Jandiala Guru town.
Four country- made pistols (three of .32 bore and one of .38 bore), three magazines of .32 bore, 24 live cartridges, three motorcycles, and three mobile phones were also recovered from the accused, said the police.
Police have identified accused as Baljit Singh, alias Bully, Sukhwinder Singh, alias Kuddu, and Kishan of Jandiala Guru. All the accused are wanted in murder and attempt to murder cases, said the police.
Abhishek Singh, 20, was shot dead by four bike-borne men in the town over his suspected affair with a woman in Shekhupura locality of Jandiala Guru on January 1.
A case under Section 302 ( murder) and 25- 54- 59 of the Arms Act was registered against five persons, including the three arrested men, at Jandiala police station. The other two accused were identified as Gurbhej Singh of Tarn Taran and Happy alias Jatt of Jandiala.
Abhishek’s bother Akashdeep Singh had said: “My brother was gunned down at the behest of Happy as one of the accused, Kishan, had been suspecting my brother’s affair with a woman.”
A spokesperson of Amritsarrural police said a team comprising deputy superintendent of police ( DSP- Jandiala) Sukhwinderpal Singh, DSP-D Gurinderpal Singh Nagra, and ASPMajitha Abhimanyu Rana was formed to arrest the accused.
The police conducted a raid at Timmowal village following a tip- off and the three accused were arrested, the spokesperson said.
He said one of the accused, Bully, is a close associate of notorious gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria. Bully had been active in Amritsar and Tarn Taran areas, and is facing four criminal cases, including murder, that was committed in Kartarpur in 2017.
Similarly, Kishan is facing six criminal cases, including two of attempt to murder, while Kuddu is booked in four cases, including three of attempt to murder, said the police.
