67 LAKH PEOPLE TO GET JABS IN FIRST DRIVE FROM JAN 16: VIJ

CHANDIGARH : Haryana home and health minister Anil Vij has said that the state is set for the roll-out for Covid-19 vaccinatio­n from January 16.

As many as 67- lakh people belonging to three categories, including health care workers, frontline workers, people aged above 50 and those below 50 years but with co-morbiditie­s, in Haryana will be first given vaccinatio­n shots.

The number of health care workers in the state is expected to be around 2 lakh, while the number of frontline workers is around 4.5 lakh. The frontline workers will include employees of urban local bbodies, safai karmachari­s, police, civil defence personnel, jail staff and revenue department employees.

Similarly, about 58-lakh people who are aged above 50, and about 2.25 lakh people below 50 years with health conditions, will be given the vaccinatio­n shots.

There will be 107 session sites in Haryana identified for administer­ing vaccinatio­n to health workers. However, later the number of these sites will be increased to 700.

Haryana records 234 new cases

CHANDIGARH: The Covid- 19 death toll in Haryana rose to 2,950 on Sunday with one more fatality, while 234 new cases pushed the infection tally to 2,64,955, a health department bulletin issued here said. The only fatality was reported from the state’s Hisar district, it said.

Among other districts to report new cases include Gurgaon (73) and Faridabad (36).

The number of active cases in the state stands at 2,510. The recovery rate is 97.94%, it said
