DEHRADUN: Gearing up for the next assembly polls to be held in 2022, Opposition Congress started focussing on mobilising its workers at booth-level in the state.

The move came during the party’s state unit in- charge Devendra Yadav’s three- day visit to the state which concluded on Saturday.

Yadav, under the move named ‘Mera Booth Mera Gaurav’, said that the booth workers will visit households in their respective areas to know the complaints of people against the Bharatiya Janata Party-led state government.

“We have held an extensive meeting with the booth committee presidents for the move.

This is to mobilise the booth workers and make them more active with just about a year left for the elections,” said Yadav.

Asserting that the move will strengthen the coordination between the booth workers and state leadership in the state, Yadav added, “Our booth workers have been directed to visit the households to know the complaints of people against the BJP government and also tell them about the failures of the government in its more than three and a half year tenure since coming to power in 2017.”

The party state in- charge said as the party is pulling up its socks for the 2022 assembly polls, the party will also “contact the leaders of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party who are not happy with their party.”

“We would definitely contact the leaders of the ruling party who are upset with their party leadership for one reason or the other. If any of them is willing to switch sides then we would first analyse whether they have a clean image and track record. We are fully prepared for the 2022 elections which we will fight on all the 70 seats and are sure to win it,” said Yadav.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party which has been already training its booth workers expressed confidence to win it while refuting the Congress’ claims on the same.

Devendra Bhasin, party state vice- president said, “The Congress is dreaming of winning the elections as the ground reality is totally different. The people of the state know what sort of development works we have done since 2017 and they are ready to give us another tenure.”

“As far as their move for mobilising the booth workers are concerned it would be of no use. People know that the Congress just spread lies and misconceptions,” said Bhasin.

Political expert and professor in Garhwal Central University in Srinagar, Pauri Garhwal, MM Semwal, however, said that Congress’ move to focus on the booth will “strengthen the parliamentary democracy in state and would make the Bharatiya Janata Party more alert in regard to 2022 elections.”

“It will not only strengthen the parliamentary democracy but its booth workers telling the voters about the Bharatiya Janata Party government’s failures which they claim, would enable them to analyse both the parties before casting their votes in 2022,” said Semwal.

Semwal further added, “The 2022 elections would be crucial as people will analyse the works done by both the parties while being in government in two decades of the state’s formation.”
