THE AUTHORITIES ARE FOLLOWING THE MODEL OF COMMUNITY BIOGAS PLANT AT NAYA GAON VILLAGE IN HISAR

DHANI MAHU (BHIWANI): The Haryana government plans to set up biogas plants under the Gobar-dhan scheme in each district to supply cooking gas. The process of setting up a community biogas plant at Dhani Mahu village in Bhiwani, nearly 24km from the district headquarters, is under progress and will be completed by March 31. This will be the second community biogas plant in state.

The authorities are following the model of community biogas plant at Naya Gaon village in Hisar, where the gas is being supplied to 150 households.

Satish Kumar Nehra, district project manager of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) in Bhiwani, said that they are setting up the biogas plant with a capacity of 400 cubic metre at Dhani Mahu village with an estimated cost of ₹ 54 lakh.

“We will generate 380 cubic metre gas from it and are aiming to supply the same to 70 households of the 750 in the initial stage. We have decided to provide free gas supply to 70 houses, which will provide us cattle dung and kitchen waste. After success of this plant, we will increase its capacity. Gas supplied from the biogas plant is nearly 50% cheaper than LPG gas and is less harmful. Biogas will be transported from the plant to individual households through underground pipelines and reading metres will be installed at these houses,” he added.

Suman Devi, sarpanch of Dhani Mahu village, said that they have provided half acre land to the administration near the gaushala in the village to set up the biogas plant.

“There are over 700 cows in the gaushala and have enough cow dung which was of no use. We used to sell cow dung at cheaper rates to the farmers and now this will be helpful in generating biogas. This will reduce indoor pollution, dependence on firewood and be less harmful than LPG,” she added.

Hisar district project manager of Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) Pinki Yadav said they have set up a community biogas plant at Naya Gaon village in district with a capacity of 400 cubic metre and another unit of the same size will be established soon.

“We are collecting cow dung at ₹ 10/kg from the villagers and charging Rs 10/unit of biogas from 150 houses. We have installed reading metres outside the houses. Dry waste, digested substrate, from the biogas plant is used in the fields as rich manure and we are providing it to farmers at ₹1,000 per trolley,” she added.
