Nothing wrong in hoisting Nishan Sahib at Red Fort: Jathedar
AMRITSAR : Akal Takht acting jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh on Friday said there was nothing wrong in hoisting the Nishan Sahib, the Sikh flag, at the Red Fort during the farmers’ tractor parade in Delhi on Republic Day.
“A lot of hue and cry is being made over hoisting the flag on an empty pole at the Red Fort. This is uncalled for. Such flags symbolising Sikh faith are hoisted by the DSGMC every year on the premises of the monument to mark the Fateh Diwas,” said the jathedar in a video message in the wake of violence during the farmers’ tractor parade in Delhi on January 26. “Also, the flag was seen fluttering on the tableau dedicated to the 400th birth anniversary of Guru Teg Bahadur ji during the official Republic Day parade the same day. Calling it a Khalistan flag is not fine,” he added.
The jathedar advised the farmer union leaders to keep the talks channel with the central government over the agriculture laws issue open, saying it is the only way out to find a solution to the deadlock.
“The government must take a step back. If we also take a step back, it reflects wisdom. Nothing is wrong in it,” said the jathedar in a video message in the wake of violence during the farmers’ tractor parade in Delhi on January 26.
He added, “Untoward incidents took place in Delhi on January 26 to the disadvantage of the agitation against the three farm laws. The responsibility of keeping the agitation under control and maintaining discipline was of those leading the protests. If anything happens good in the agitation, credit and appreciation go to the leaders. They also have to own up the responsibility if anything untoward took place there.”
