70 protesters from Punjab in Delhi Police custody
CHANDIGARH: With the Delhi Police compiling the list of persons arrested in connection with the farmers’ protest on Republic Day and making it public on its website, it has emerged that 70 of 120 on the list hail from Punjab, with six of them above 50 years of age. There are 32 persons are from Haryana and 16 persons from Delhi, while one each from UP and Uttarakhand.
Gurmukh Singh, 80, of Shanashapuri village in Fatehgarh Sahib and Jeet Singh, 70, of Khanouri Kalan in Sangrur, are among the oldest to be arrested. The majority of those arrested are between 20-30 years of age. A large chunk on the list are from the three Malwa districts of Moga, Mansa and Bathinda. Residents of Ferozepur, Patiala, Sangrur, Barnala, Fazilka, Ludhiana, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur and Tarn Taran districts are also on the list. There are 10 individuals from the same Moga village.
In FIR number 46 related to Nangloi violence, 10 persons belong to Tatariewala village of Moga district. All were said to be in a group, which had reached
Delhi on January 24. The accused are between 19-50. This FIR has 20 accused, of which nine belong to Haryana.
As per the list, 14 FIRS were registered in connection with the farmers’ protest at nine different police stations of the national capital. The Nangloi police arrested 38 persons after registering four FIRS followed by Alipur Outer North Police Station, which has registered two FIRS and arrested 34 persons. Fifteen were arrested by Paschim Vihar West police. Mundka outer district police arrested five by registering two FIRS, while one each
was registered at Mukherjee Nagar police station (9 arrests), Uttam Nagar police station (6), Najafgarh (7), Seemapuri (3) and Baba Haridas Nagar (3).
Cong, SAD set up helplines
Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh announced helpline 112 to trace persons missing since Republic Day. The CM said he will take up the issue with home ministry. Also, Akali Dal has set up a control room and a helpline at Gurdwara Rakabjang Sahib in Delhi to provide legal help to kin of those missing or arrested.
