HC LAWYERS TO RESUME WORK TODAY
CHANDIGARH: The executive committee of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association (PHHCBA) has decided to resume work from Friday. Work had been suspended from Monday in protest against the non-resumption of physical hearings by the high court administration. The Bar body’s call had come after HC deferred hearing of cases listed in February for May-june owing to the covid-19 outbreak. Physical hearing has been suspended since March 2020.
In a meeting between the high court administration and executive members of PHHCBA, it was resolved that from Monday, lawyers won’t need to make a mention of their case before a designated bench for listing and the cases filed with a prayer for urgent hearing will be listed and taken up by respective benches.
After covid-19 outbreak, lawyers had to make a mention for urgent listing of case before a bench in certain category of cases. Apart from three courts that will open for physical hearing from Monday, three more courts will be opened for hearing from February 15. As of now cases are being taken up through video conferencing only.
“The process of further opening of courts through physical hearing in the high court in staggered manner shall be done in consultation with the Bar,” the high court administration said. After this meeting, the Bar has taken back their decision of boycotting the court of chief justice RS Jha and demanding his transfer from the high court.
