Militants attack CRPF team, constable injured

SRINAGAR: Militants on Saturday opened fire at a CRPF team in Jammu and Kashmir’s Chanapora area, injuring a constable, an official of the paramilita­ry force said. Militants opened fire at the road opening party (ROP) of the CRPF’S 29th battalion at Chanapora locality here, CRPF PRO O P Tiwari said.he said constable Manoj Kumar Yadav was injured in the foot during the attack.the injured constable has been taken to a hospital. The area has been cordoned off, he said.

Lashkar-e-mustafa chief held in Jammu

JAMMU: A most-wanted terrorist and self-styled commander of Lashkar-e-mustafa, believed to be a frontal organisati­on of Jaish-e-mohammad (JEM) outfit, was arrested on Saturday after police intercepte­d a car on the outskirts of Jammu city.

A pistol and grenade were seized from the possession of Hidayatull­ah Malik, an ‘A’ category terrorist hailing from Shopian district.

“We have recovered some arms and ammunition from him. More searches and raids are yet to be conducted,” said Jammu district police chief SSP Shridhar Patil. Patil said the terrorist was arrested from Kunjwani area of Jammu city. “Malik was travelling in a vehicle with arms, ammunition and grenades when arrested by a police team,” he said. The SSP informed that the terrorist attacked the police party which had gone to arrest him but was overpowere­d.

Preliminar­y questionin­g has revealed that he was planning to conduct a terror attack in

Jammu, the officer said.

Police are searching for another associate of Malik who allegedly travelled with him from Kashmir to Jammu, officials said. It has been learnt that the terrorist was travelling in a vehicle which had UP’S registrati­on number.as per informatio­n, Malik is among the ten accused in a case pertaining to detection of a powerful car bomb in Pulwama on May 27 last year. The bomb was later destroyed on the spot by security forces to avert any major mishap.
